The following is a Q & A with ZIF to get an understanding of what you can expect with this blog.
What is this blog about?
Basically anything and everything about job search, careers, the hiring process, and the workplace. And in each piece there will be at least one insight/idea/tip that is either immediately helpful for people in a job search or to navigate their career/work life in general.
What will this blog say that others don’t? It feels like the internet has a lot of career and job search advice out there already. I mean I read my social media feeds and I feel like “Top 10 Résumé Tips” or “Five Things Never to Say in an Interview” has been done already. Like a lot.
Well this blog is going to be more creative than just writing things up as a standard opinion piece. It will try to strike a different chord than presenting decent, but ultimately somewhat forgettable advice. I want to show people what goes wrong, how that impacts their success, and then what to do to make it right.
The goal is a blog that is interesting enough to read all the time – not just when you are in the throes of a career crisis. No “Top Ten Résumé Tips” I promise!
Is that why on the landing page it says this blog is supposed to be ‘light-hearted’? Are you trying to be funny?
Yes! Well not right now this second. But ultimately yes.
Okay good luck with that because I have to tell you I don’t LOL all that much. And certainly not about career and job stuff.
Alright it may not be LOL funny – more LOTI funny. Entertaining. Even about career and job stuff.
How are you qualified to give this kind of advice?
I’ve read 50,000+ résumés, conducted thousands of interviews, negotiated hundreds of job offers, and worked with a huge range of Hiring Managers. I’ve worked in different spaces and places. And I graduated from a Career & Work Counselling program.
Well I guess it sounds like you might know what you’re talking about…
Thanks! I have a lot to share with people that will really help.
How often are you going to post? I have to tell you I hate static web sites. I mean don’t start a blog unless you are really going to do it. You know what I mean??
I do. I will be posting once a week - on Wednesdays.
You’re going to post on hump day?
You’ve got to have something to get you through the work week – am I right?
I might check it out.
I appreciate that. You can even subscribe to the blog via your favourite feed reader.
Okay already - I’ll have to see if it’s interesting first. I guess I’ll read it right now and find out.
Thank you. And if you have any other questions you can always contact me. I’m happy to chat about this stuff anytime.
